Unfortunately, OSPA doesn’t receive any funding from the local authorities in Cape Verde.
Donations and fundraising play a key role in the care of our resident dogs and also the upkeep needed to keep our rehoming centre running smoothly. This all helps us give our dogs the best possible chance of a better life.
We rely on the generosity of our supporters to provide the means to do this, through donations and we actively encourage and get involved in fundraising activities in support of this.

Charitable Luggage Allowance from TUI UK
Thanks to TUI UK, OSPA can apply to TUI for up to 20kg of free charitable luggage per booking, for travellers from the UK. This enables visitors to bring over much needed donations and supplies for charitable usage.
It’s a very quick and simple process.
Just message OSPA with a few flight details a couple of weeks before you travel and you should receive a charity luggage waiver from TUI within a few days.
You can then bring extra items over that are so desperately needed here, but cannot be sourced on the island. The postal system in Cape Verde is almost non-existent, so this is very important to us, as otherwise we would need to source and import items from further afield.
OSPA can also supply cases already pre-filled with donations collected from supporters in the UK. You can visit us and bring the donations to OSPA, or we would be happy to collect from your hotel.

Crowd Funder
Crowd Funder is the same as if you were to start a Just Giving page to raise money for a particular event you are hosting. However, if you set up a crowd fundraising project, on behalf of OSPA i.e. a sponsored event, all your donations received will go directly to OSPA’s UK bank account and no fees will be taken! If you would like to donate by cash we take donations at our Rehoming Centre in Santa Maria. You will find a collection box in the front office. There are donation envelopes provided and we would be grateful if you could write your name and amount on the envelope and also record your kind donation in our collection book, next to the box. In that way, we can ensure that we keep a record of all cash donations made.
OSPA is now officially registered as a UK Charity – registered charity number 1204295
We can now claim back 25% tax for every donation we have received since 10th of August 2023, from all UK tax payers.
